Me and the boys are starting to go on our weekend outdoor adventures again. When we first moved here a few years back, we planned to explore all the parks and nature preserves in the surrounding areas. We were pretty good for a while and life happened and those adventures dropped off. I’m glad we all feel comfortable enough now to resume the adventures.

Last weekend, we went to the Brumley Forest Nature Preserve in Chapel Hill. There were several trails to choose from and we explored the Chimney Swift Trail. I liked this relatively short loop (less than a mile) mostly because it was exclusive to hikers. Those on bicycles had several trails to choose from. I am more of a forest saunterer per say, than a hiker. B and I differ in that regard. He always ends up waiting for me and N because we like to walk slow and touch and really look at every little part of the forest. The shorter loop allowed for us to slow down and really enjoy the diversity of life in this forest. We tossed rocks, then later sweet gum pods down the pebbly paths. Somehow we began a discussion on triangles – the differences between isosceles, equilateral, obtuse, acute (which N pronounced AH-cute before I reluctantly corrected him). The pleasant weather and the late afternoon sun made it feel like the perfect hike.
